4 Variations on Itineraries
2020

Paper, 42 × 29 cm

When the COVID-19 pandemic began in January in China, I saw many infected people’s itineraries were exposed publicly on the Internet thanks to the omnipresent surveillance system in China. Until then people come to realize that there’s nothing they can hide from the government.

Even though I was in Italy at the time, where the situation was much better than in China, it soon proved to be the worst in Europe. I found myself worried about being infected and concerned that my past itineraries would be publicly exposed as well. As a precaution, I voluntarily recalled and documented my itineraries from January to March.

As I reviewed my documented itineraries, I noticed some subtle variations in their formats that might be connected to the different ways I processed information. By clarifying these internal relationships, I was able to understand the entire experience of feeling lost in the overwhelming flow of information.
