Recently, Bao Wang observed a curious trend: more and more people around him are self-identifying as 穷鬼 (brokies). At first glance, this might seem troubling. Yet, as Bao delved deeper into their world, the philosophy behind being a brokie began to reveal itself.
To better articulate this burgeoning identity, Bao Wang interviewed self-proclaimed brokies and crafted this manifesto.
It’s important to note that the term “brokie” is a nuanced translation of the Chinese word 穷鬼, which literally means “poor ghost.” It carries cultural connotations far removed from figures like Andrew Tate or other associations the English term might evoke.
