The Invisible School project
2020 - 2021

Paper, dimension variable, 7 pages

This project is within the scope of a collective initiative hosted by ENSA Bourges aiming to explore and reflect on the history of the old, demolished school site of ENSA Bourges in 1976.

My focus for this project is the evolution of pedagogy, particularly through the use of plaster sculptures. These sculptures can still be found in the attic of the current school site, where they have been sealed and abandoned since the 1980s. This change coincided with the decision by the French Culture Minister in the 1980s to transform the classical national art educational system into a contemporary one.

My project consists of two parts. In part one, I wrote a short story of my engagement in the history of drawing plaster sculptures; then in part two, I aimed to extend the history by organizing a drawing session for current ENSA Bourges students to draw one of these deserted plasters once more.

In French, the word for story and history is the same (histoire). I am convinced that our stories (histoires) will eventually shape the body of a new history (Histoire).

The installation view was taken on the occasion of the DNSEP exhibition of ENSA Bourges in 2021.
